There’s some warm are flooding in from the south west which is quite moist so it’s overcast and quite

sticky. Warmth is fine but with high humidity it’s not particularly pleasant. Fortunately as the days are shortening, early mornings and evenings are becoming quite chilly. An al fresco lunch is pleasant enough but the evening would need the fire burning to temp us out.

The autumnal feel spreads to the hedgerows where the fruits are developing and there’s a perceptible change in the leaf cover. Some trees have started to loose their leaves like this one, probably due to lack of water. Too many seem to be diseased, possible as a result of the unusual weather we’ve had throughout the

year.

There are just a few flowers about, especially some clumps of Common Toadflax which line the edge of the path. Near Hunters Race there’s some Agrimony sticking up like miniature yellow pokers, a little colour amongst the green turning to brown. After the rains the grass has had a spurt of growth, good for cows, it’s at this time that some of the best cheese is made.

Autumn is the time for mushrooms and the first ones are starting to appear. In the grass there’s the tell tail circles of darker green with some field mushrooms peeking out. There are these round, white ones that are

the majority right now. They are the young ones, there are just a few older ones that have matured into a more traditional mushroom shape and darkened.
