It’s the fourth day of 35 degree days and 20+ degree nights, the only time to go for a walk is early in the morning and it’s time to visit Nutbourne and Prinstead again. As soon as we got down to the harbour a
surprise was in store, about forty Canada geese were there, sitting in and around the outfall. There have been a few around the top of the harbour but I was surprised to see so many. They made quite a sight considering we’d had hardly any waterfowl around for months.
Further on there was this bird feeding that I think was a Whimbrel as it was smaller than usual for a Curlew. It was rather far away so without
glasses it wasnt possible to be certain but it is the right time of year to spot one on it’s way south to winter in Africa. There were a few noisy Oyster Catchers but not much else flying about.
Naturally with the heat everything is drying out, there’s not a lot to see, this pond is typical of the landscape now. There’s little flying about today, shame all the Swallows have now finally departed for southern climes. According to
Richard Williamson they all leave on the 4th but there were a few about after that although they’ve all gone now.
