It’s another very warm day, expected to be well over 25 degrees and even early in the morning it’s warm. The earth is parched through lack of rain, some recent thunderstorms passed us by, it’s like
high summer even though it’s Spring.
Just after leaving our car at St Marys in Chidham we came upon this swarm of bees in a tree alongside the path. It’s not surprising as there are several hives nearby and they have had plenty of time to increase in numbers sufficiently to support swarming. I hope they either find a new home or the Bee Keeper finds them and gives them a home, we need bees now more than ever!
The swans were on their nest at the Bomb hole, it’s reasonable to assume they’ve laid some eggs. The Cygnets should be appearing shortly, something to watch out for. A pair of Mallard ducks were there too, unfortunately they only had two ducklings with them, presumably they’d lost several to predators. That’s not really surprising as they let their babies go well away over to the other side of the pond, not the best of parenting.
There are several attractive meadows about but none like this one
that’s brim full of Ox Eyed Daisies. An amazing sight that someone must have taken care to cultivate.
Soon after taking this picture we heard the first Cuckoo of the season, somewhere in the middle of our circular walk. There may have been others by now but this was the first I’d heard; unfortunately they seem to becoming fewer as time advances.
