After several days with a high of 27 degrees it’s all change now as easterly winds turn west and the
temperature plummets. Leaving home, the temperature was 13 degrees, a huge change with a high of 15 expected. The rain that was meant to come yesterday was light and patchy so the ground is just as hard and dry as before.
The deep blue sky has been replaced by clouds and the harbour has a grey feel to it. It’s much better for walking being quite invigorating for a change. This seems to have benefited the Swans that are out in large numbers, all very social.
The Reed beds were particularly active with Reed and Sedge Warblers in evidence, the reed warblers were particularly vocal. There might have been a Reed Bunting in there too but I couldn’t be sure.
On the side of one of the paths I came across this wild Basil, a particularly attractive plant that’s not
unlike the one we have in our herb garden but rather smaller. Also out in full flower is the Mallow. The one around the harbour is the Tree Mallow, it’s like the common Mallow but with these black stripes.
