Today was sunny and warm just like yesterday, it looks settled for several days too. To avoid others out for a walk on this, the first day of the bank holiday, we decided to take a short circular walk around the fields adjacent to the Centurion Way. Although destined to be built on they’re still cultivated at present but the soil quality doesn’t seem particularly good as this snap shows.

The earth has dried right out with big cracks already; there doesn’t appear to be much organic matter or anything on the surface to aid water retention. Perhaps the Farmer has given up on soil quality as it’s not going to be used for crop production much longer.

Back on the Centurion Way the blossom has take on a new lease of life, sparkling white in the sunshine. There are also plenty of butterflies around too, we saw our first orange tip butterfly today.

The Lords and ladies have also
come out now, in many places, such unusual flowers. The flower itself grows at the base of the club shaped flower head which is enveloped by the large hood. Apparently the berries that appear later on are poisonous.
