It’s a drizzly day with winds that are gusting gale force, just right for a bracing walk around Chidham. The first impression is of the daffodils, so many have come out now that the grey backdrop is
regularly relived by vivid splashes of yellow. There’s still many more to come, all we need now is a sunny day to fully appreciate them. Many may be cultivated rather than wild ones but the effect is to show that spring is well and truly on the way.

They were not the only splashes of yellow either, over the past few
days some Marsh Marigolds with their kidney shaped leaves in a ditch have emerged. There were also some Lesser Celandines with their heart shaped leaves and spiky flowers in a field on the edge of the woods. Hopefully heralds of more flowers to come.

Out in the harbour there were a few geese staying in the lee of the land with the occasional wigeon amongst them; they clearly wanted to stay out of the worst of the wind. Out on the wreck were some dunlin who flew up for a few moments, thought better of going elsewhere and landed again in the same place. Maybe it’s their version of musical chairs.

Close to the Church there’s a ditch that usually has water in it much of the year, naturally it’s quite full
at present. Here I saw the first frog spawn of the year, it should be quite good conditions for tadpoles, lets hope they mature into plenty of frogs.
