Bright blue skies again but not for long  as very strong winds have been forecast for the weekend, up to 90 miles per hour. For now, it’s fine with hardly any wind, and just coming up to high water at Chidham.

Walking along the fields to the harbour there’s at least one crop that seems to buck the trend and is
growing strongly, it’s much higher than the miniature shoots that were there earlier in the year. This is in sharp contrast to so many other crops that are waterlogged, clearly this strain has benefitted from the mild weather.

Birds are clearly a threat to many of the crops around the peninsular, This scarecrow amongst the market garden crops may be a bit strange but seems to be doing the job. Elsewhere there are several gas guns continually going
off; this excites Bonnie who’s always looking up to see what’s about to fall out of the sky. Shame she’s always disappointed!

Overlooking Chidham Creek in the margins quite close to the path were several groups of wildfowl and waders. What was particularly notable was about ten Godwits all standing together, occasionally one would fly up then drop back. Further out were groups of Teal, inshore plenty of Wigeon could be heard but not seen. A delightful panorama with sound accompanyment!

Naturally the snowdrops were all in full bloom, a carpet of white in places. The daffodils still had some way to go before blooming although there were a few promising patches of yellow peaking out.
