Mixed weather now and a high tide but fine for a short walk around Chidham. Right from the start as we crossed the fields it was clear this was going to be an excellent day for butterflies. Naturally there were plenty of Meadow Browns but then we saw a small blue flirting over the brambles. It stopped
momentarily with its wings closed as in the picture, very pretty.
Next came a much larger butterfly, one that we hadn’t seen this year, a Peacock. With it’s bright spots on it’s wings looking like eyes it’s a
splendid sight. There were also a few fritillaries as well, not quite so striking but rather elegant. Along the harbour path were plenty of large Whites, Marbled Whites and, of course, the ubiquitous meadow browns.
Also by the harbour amongst the grass close to the tide line were many clumps of Sea Lavender that were now fully grown. Fortunately the sun
came out at that moment illuminating the bright blue flowers.
