This short walk follows the “Cut” or flood relieve trench from Bray towards Maidenhead then follows the Green Way back; it’s a circular path around a nature reserve adjacent to where we used to live.
With the weather rather grey and dark the trees and bushes seemed similarly lifeless. It would appear
that the local bird population had not realised that the days were getting longer, they stayed almost silent. Just a few Robins were brave enough to venture out close to where we were walking by, other songbirds kept well away.
The cut was a bit more lively with several pairs of Mallard guarding their own stretch of the stream, not at all sociable. A surprise was to hear the thrip of a Teal, not immediately visible but there all the same behind some branches. This was the first time I’d ever seen or heard them here.
The site of the little Winbury school has been turned into Braywick Court School which is much bigger, now open and seemingly rather busy. It’s right opposite the Well House where we used to live; it’s changed the neighbourhood a great deal, we’re not sorry we moved.
